Tyne & Wear Flying Club

ABOUT US
The Tyne & Wear Flying Club was formed in 1990 by 7 members of another north east club, spearheaded by Bill Goldsmith and Keith Chapman.  The new club was affiliated with the BMFA.

The aims of the club was to develop the building and flying of all types of aero models.  After consultation with Sunderland Leisure Services, the club was awarded Fulwell Mill as a flying site.

Over the next five years the club expanded up to a high of 55 members, the club also acquired a model trainer buddy system, noise checker, frequency analyser and other safety equipment.

In 1996 the club decided to look for a private site as well as maintaining Fulwell Mill, as some of our members were flying frequently the flying site was being heavily used.

After a year of searching the club found a site at Harehills Farm, Haswell Plough, and rented the site until December 2002, when we were asked to vacate the site as the farmer wished to use the land for other purposes.

In march 2003 we found another site at Primrose Farm, Langley Moor.  Further to travel, but it was a site which is situated in the open with some great views of the country all around.

Because of the distance that quite a few of our members have to travel to this site, it was proposed that we should look at the possibility of relocating to a nearer site.

After some searching we have aquired a site at Seaham which is a huge area, abutting the sea and we hope to be there for a long time.
